About Janet
Fresh In The City was created in November of 2006 following my first visit to the fresh networks fresh festival in October 2006; an energetic, fresh food event full of individuals addressing questions about our food, our health, our children and our development as a planet, whilst having a very good time and I was inspired by the people I met there to share my own learning and work in food and health.
I’d already been a nutrition therapist since I was 21, which
I got into so early to help me support myself with some
health challenges I faced in my teen years. As soon as I'd
attended to my own health issues, it was a natural
progression to carry on with the work professionally. 10 years
later, my experience of nutritional work is varied including
work as a health advisor in the health food industry, a community nutritionist for the NHS,
a children's healthy eating workshop provider at festivals, and a healthy living centre food and health worker.
Despite working in very mainstream nutritional jobs and
developing a good grasp and interest in mainstream nutritional
health agendas, my training background has always
been in naturopathic nutrition and medicine. In 2004 I left my NHS
job, and returned to my work in nutritional medicine as an
advisor at the Eighth Day health food store in Manchester.
During this period, I continued my personal studies and
practice, and in 2007, my studies led me to a practical
training in the therapeutic properties and uses of fresh, wholefoods.
At this time, I learnt how to grow and
prepare living foods, and how to use fresh fruit and vegetable juices therapeutically, and enzyme rich foods for optimum nutrition, health
rejuvenation and enjoyment. Following on from this
training I became very interested in the role of physical
activity in health and well-being and at the
end of 2008 progressed my studies and practice further by
studying the role of exercise in health. Currently I am engaged in my own practice and
in sharing what I have learnt since my practice began through healthy food and living programmes and workshops which I run privately and in the community.
Professional Membership
I am a member of BANT,
the NTC and CNHC:
(British Association of Nutrition Therapists),
(Nutritional Therapy Council),
and (Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council)
I’ve a 10 year background in nutritional work and
experience of speaking to many people (men and women)
about changing their diet. I have a particular
understanding of the obstacles that women face when
changing their diets and I am keen to teach
the practical skills and knowledge needed to ensure
the process of a positive health change in diet and
lifestyle is fun, safe, effective, and colourful.
I believe the best approach to making positive change is for individuals to be persistent
and consistent in taking simple, daily practical actions. I
encourage people to get active themselves, love food, connect with nature
and enjoy their lives, working with their limits and finding a level of change appropriate for them.
