About Janet
Fresh In The City was created in November of 2006 following my first visit to the fresh networks fresh festival in October 2006; an energetic, fresh and living foods event full of individuals addressing questions about our food, our health, our children and our development as a planet, whilst having a very good time and I was inspired by the people I met there to share my own learning and work in food and health.
I’d already been a nutrition therapist since I was 21, which
I got into so early to help me heal myself from a number of
health challenges I faced in my teen years. As soon as I'd
attended to my own health issues successfully, it was a natural
progression to carry on with the work professionally. 10 years
later, my experience of nutritional work is varied including
work as a health advisor in the health food industry, a community nutritionist for the NHS,
a children's healthy eating workshop provider at festivals, and a healthy living centre food and health worker.
Despite working in very mainstream nutritional jobs and
developing a good grasp and interest in mainstream nutritional
health agendas, my training background has always
been in naturopathic nutrition and medicine. In 2004 I left my NHS
job, and returned to my work in nutritional medicine as an
advisor at the Eighth Day health food store in Manchester.
During this period, I continued my personal studies and
practice, and in 2007, my studies led me to a practical
training in the therapeutic properties and uses of living foods.
At this time, I trained to be a rawfood coach with Karen Knowler,
and this 5-day course taught me how to grow, germinate,
prepare, and use raw and living foods for optimum nutrition, and health
rejuvenation. I now use these practices to compliment my own
nutritional therapy training, and in 2008 I became committed to teaching practical
skills, in nutrition and naturopathy,
to other people.
Professional Membership
I am a member of BANT and CThA:
(British Association of Nutrition Therapists)
and (Complementary Therapists' Association)
I’ve a 10 year background in nutritional therapy and
experience of speaking to many people (men and women)
about changing their diet. I have a particular
understanding of the obstacles that women face when
changing their diets and I am passionate about teaching
the practical skills and knowledge needed to ensure
the process of a positive change in diet is fun,
colourful, and delicious.
I believe the best approach to making positive change is for individuals to be persistent in taking simple, daily practical actions. I encourage people to get creative themselves, love food, connect with nature, enjoy their lives and be sensual, working with their limits and finding a level of change appropriate for them.
